Working group RM Roadmap NL
The objective of the Working Group RM ROADMAP NL is to explore the possibility of co-designing a Dutch Research Management (RM) roadmap with relevant stakeholders in the research and innovation (R&I) ecosystem in the Netherlands. This roadmap aims to provide infrastructure and capacity for the further development, professionalization, and recognition of the RM community. The roadmap is important to sustain a viable and competitive R&I ecosystem in light of demographic developments and evolving effects on the general and RM workforce. Andreja is the primary contact for the RM roadmap NL.
The strengthening of an inclusive research management community in Europe is supported by the EC funded RM Roadmap project, under the EC HORIZON-WIDERA-2021-ERA-01 call, coordinated by EARMA. The RM ROADMAP project (Creating Framework Conditions for Research Management to Strengthen the European Research Area) will create a roadmap for the future of research management (RM) in Europe and a community to support its delivery.
About the project
The overarching objective of RM ROADMAP is to identify and adapt the research management capital base of the EU, including the widening countries, and emerging needs of its current and future research management workforce to improve EU’s competitiveness and sustain its economic performance.
The project connects existing European networks on a smart community platform which enables an unprecedented co-creation process in research management in the world. This co-creation process gathers the existing communities and expand upon them to reach two main objectives – To create and inform a bottom-up consensus on the future of RM in a roadmap, and to inform the community about existing training, networking, funding, and mobility opportunities.
RM ROADMAP consists of 8 partners: European Association of Research Managers and Administrators (Belgium); HETFA Research Institute (Hungary); Nova University Lisbon (Portugal); Association of European Science & Technology Transfer Professionals (Netherlands); Crowdhelix Limited (Ireland), The Cyprus Institute (Cyprus) and associated partners Janssen Pharmaceuticals (J&J) and Una Europa (Belgium).

Output
Summary of the Dutch input RM roadmap co-creation session 1, October 2023: Understanding the landscape: Networks and associations for the Netherlands:
RM networks provide benefits like knowledge sharing, professional development, community support, policy engagement, and networking. Challenges include time constraints, limited recognition, lack of resources and stakeholder engagement difficulties. Overcoming these obstacles is essential for maximizing the impact of these networks in the research ecosystem.
- Co-designing a Dutch Research Management (RM) roadmap with relevant stakeholders, which would address Priority 17 of the European Research Area Policy Agenda and provide infrastructure and capacity for the further development, professionalization, and recognition of the RM community in The Netherlands.
- Reaching out to all relevant stakeholders to start the exploration towards a Dutch RM roadmap in a structured and organized manner, seeking alignment and complementarity with initiatives like RM ROADMAP and CARDEA.
- Reporting on progress and presenting a case example of setting up comparable national roadmaps to the ARMA-NL community including the Board, with lessons learned and future outlook.
- Continuing to discuss and align policies and strategies for addressing challenges in the R&I ecosystem at the national level through the “knowledge coalition”
